Catching up with Alumni on Manuel’s visit at FMI
Happy to see former postdoc Manuel back on a visit to the lab and hear about his lab’s lates research on miRNA decay – lots of fond memories by everyone that overlapped with him in the lab.
Lab Dinner at Autour de la Table
Lab Retreat – Hohneck
This year, we spent two stormy and rainy days in Hohneck. After a very short and wet hike we played games, held a pub quiz and had a discussion about our upcoming lab video in a cozy mountain hut before finishing the retreat with two rounds of lasertag.
FMI Annual Meeting
We enjoyed this year’s Annual Meeting at the Novartis campus with interesting talks, fruitful scientific discussions and the gala dinner together with all FMI fellows.
FMI move
Bye bye old FMI building! Intense days full of packing, last-minute preparations and cleaning passed. Now, we arrived at the new FMI building, where we’re slowing getting settled. Even our lab mascot ‘the bird’ is already enjoying the view from our new office space. After a first coffee break together we’ll be soon ready to start our first experiments in the new lab.

FMI End Year Celebration
We had a great evening together at FMI End Year Celebration. This year one of our next generation scientists got introduced to the Grosshans world.
Christmas Dinner
Another Christmas Dinner together with the entire lab including the traditional Secret Santa and delicious Vietnamese food.
Lab Retreat – Les Vosges
This year we spent two beautiful days in Les Vosges. After visiting Riquewihr and the surrounding colorful vineyards, we arrived at a chalet where we had a workshop on figure analysis, followed by a lot of tarte falmbees and a pub quiz. The second day was filled with games, from board games to bowling.
FMI Annual Meeting
This year’s Annual Meeting took place in Davos, where we spent three days full of scientific discussions, outdoor activities and the traditional gala dinner together with all FMI fellows in the Swiss mountains.
Maike’s defense
Congrats to Maike for her awesome PhD defense! It was very nice to celebrate Maike’s work together with current and former lab members.

FMI End Year Celebration
FMI End Year Celebration full of fun, raclette cheese and dancing. This year our lab participated again in the FMI cake competition with a beautiful reindeer cake.
Christmas Dinner
Our yearly Christmas Dinner including Secret Santa. This year we welcomed our new lab mascot ‘the bird’.
FMI Annual Meeting
We had a great time at the FMI Annual Meeting in Grindelwald, where we spent time together with all FMI members. We enjoyed three amazing days full of science, activities and the gala dinner in a stunning scenery.
Happy Hour – Spooktober Fest
It was our pleasure to organize this months Happy Hour with the theme ‘Spooktoberfest’ at the FMI together with the Matthias Lab.
Lab Retreat – Strasbourg
We spent two days in Strasbourg together. Besides giving some presentations we visited the European parliament, had delicious Alsatian food and explored the city with our personal guide Alison.

Lab Retreat – Stockhorn
We spent a beautiful sunny day together in the Swiss mountains with some of us being more enthusiastic about hiking than others before enjoying some Portuguese tapas.

Chiara’s defense
Congratulations to Chiara for her amazing PhD defense! Despite the current restrictions and the hybrid format of her defense, we made the best out of it and celebrated Chiara’s great work together.
Yannick’s defense
Many congratulations to Yannick for his awesome PhD defense! Even tough we couldn’t be there in person, we tried our best to support Yannick with our printed faces and quotes. An in-person celebration will definitely follow as soon as possible!

Milou’s defense
Congratulations to Milou for her amazing PhD defense! It was very nice celebrating this day and Milou’s great achievement together with many friends and colleagues.
Lab retreat – Luzern
We had a great day together in Luzern. After tasting a variety of Swiss chocolate and creating our own chocolates, we went up to Mount Pilatus. From there we had a beautiful walk and a stunning view over the Lake Lucerne. After some tobogganing we spent the evening together with some drinks and Spanish tapas.
